Painted Stone can be crafted by smelting Colored Cobble in a Furnace or Blast Furnace, or by placing 8 Stone around your dye of choice in a Crafting Table.

Colored Cobble
Colored Cobble can be obtained by mining Painted Stone, or crafted by placing 8 Cobblestone around your dye of choice in a Crafting Table.
Crafting Colored Cobble only requires 1 dye for painting 8 blocks at once.
